It’s always a good idea to have a backup plan when it comes to media management, and IMDb lists are a reliable alternative to Trakt in case of any issues. By following the steps outlined in the guide, you can easily create and add your IMDb lists to Kodi
As of December 11, 2022, Trakt has collapsed and its designers are working to restore it. This is a painstaking process that is unknown when it will be completed and has affected many movie plugins as some do not work at all.
Here’s how we overcome such problems by moving the Lists you like to IMDb listings so that you have reliable alternatives to Kodi v19 and v20.
How to Add your IMDb lists to Kodi
Most of us are familiar with IMDb (Internet Movie Database) and that it is the largest online database, from which Kodi can access movie and TV series information.
Also, it is a highly interactive platform that allows us to see more reviews and ratings than Trakt, and most importantly create free lists as we do with Trakt, instead of searching through the conventional categorizations of Kodi addons.
Of course, Trakt TV remains ideal when it comes to lists, but it’s always a good idea to have an alternative ready like now that it’s crashed.
So if we use RD you can have countless personal lists on IMDb as well which you can add to Trakt.
1 – Go to IMDb
To add you IMDb lists to kodi, you need first to have an IMDb account and a create a watch-list. For this, open IMDb in the browser you use and connect to your account. If you haven’t already, you just use our Google account, etc.
Once logged in, click on the Watchlist button at the top right to open our own IMDb Watch-list page.
As you know, to add a movie or series to the Watchlist, simply click once on the “+” you see on the poster of the Movie.
You can also tap later on Create a new list to create more personal lists. All of them can be used in Kodi just like we do with Trakt.
2 – Copy IMDb ID
On the Watchlist page, click Edit to set it to Public since it is set to Private by default.
Next, you copy the IMDb user ID from the URL of the Watchlist page. These are some numbers that start after the character ur as you can see in the image below.
3 – Launch Kodi
For the sake of this guide, we are going to use the Fen addon. This is a great option for you to take full advantage of the IMDB Lists in one place. Fen is a premium addon that requires an RD account to work. It works flawlessly on both Kodi v19 Matrix and the new Kodi v20 Nexus from where we show the following screenshots.
add IMDB Lists with Fen addon
- Name: Tikipeter Repository
- URL: http://tikipeter.github.io
To be able to access your IMDB Lists on Fen addon and Kodi, follow the steps below
- Run Fen addons and head up the Tools.
- Enter the SETTINGS: Fen option
- Click Meta Accounts and choose IMDB
- Then in the User field, paste the IMDb user ID that you copied into the browser, and click OK.
- Optionally, you can also define the order in which you want the lists to appear.
From now on, your IMDb listings will appear in Fen’s main menu (My Lists), where their Trakt counterparts are.
You will see them divided into two categories, movies or series, both in the Watchlist that we create with one click on the browser…
…as well as in the individual personal lists that you may create on the browser’s IMDb. If you want, you can add these two indicators to your favourites for faster access.
The process is quite similar for most Kodi addons available for Movies and TV Series.
No matter how many lists you create on IMDb, you can later transfer them to your kodi if you want to.
To add your IMDb lists to kodi as a backup option is a smart move, especially when faced with issues like Trakt’s recent collapse. It provides a reliable alternative and ensures that you can continue to enjoy your favorite media content without any disruptions.
