Install Kodi from Play Store
The Kodi app is available on Google Play so you won’t have too much trouble installing it on your Android TV.
You just have to access Google Play and search for Kodi using the search bar. Make sure to install the XBMC Foundation application.
Then you just have to start the app and start configuring it.
Install Kodi APK file from Kodi website
If for any strange reason, other than not having searched the application correctly, the Kodi application does not appear in Google Play, all is not yet lost since you can download the installer APK file from the Kodi website.
Getting Kodi is very easy and here we are going to see how you can get it on an Android TV device without having to go through the application store.
The process will take th
ree steps:
- First, we will install the Downloader app from the Play Store
- Second, we will enable installation from unknown sources for the Downloader app
- Finally, we will find, download and install the APK file
If the first two steps are already done for you, then skip directly to the third one
Install Downloader app on Android TV
The first thing you need to do is to install the Downloader app, a powerful browser, and file manager specifically designed for android TV-based devices, and this is what interests us the most since we will use it to download any APK from an outside source.
Say that the Downloader app is available in the official Play Store, so you can download it directly to your Mi TV Stick.
Open Play Store, search Downloader, then install and open the application
Once launched it will ask you to grant permission to access local storage. Since this is a file manager, it will need your permission to function. Just press Allow
Most importantly, you will have to activate the browser option for this app. To do so, a plug-in must be installed. In the search box type, the following address: browser.aftvnews.com a press GO
Wait for the download to finish then press Install.
When the installation process is over, press Done.
It will take you back to the previous screen, here you should select Delete to get rid of the installation package and free storage space.
Next, confirm the deletion

Enable Installation from unknown sources
Since you are going to download and install Kodi from the official website which is a third-party source. The first thing you have to do is enable installation from unknown sources. If not already done, just follow these steps:
Launch Mi TV Stick and click on the “System Settings” Icon.
Select Device Preferences
Go to Security and restrictions
Enter Unknown sources option
Allow Downloader app to install from unknown sources
Download and install Kodi APK
After having enabled installation from unknown sources, your device can now install any app you want from outside the official Play Store.
Once the Downloader app is ready to use, all you have to do is click on the Browser option and use the search bar to download any application in APK format.
To install Kodi APK, follow the steps below:
Launch the Downloader app and in the search box and type kodi.tv/download then press GO
This link will take you to the download page of Kodi official website
In the new screen that opens you will have to choose the operating system in which you are going to use Kodi (in this case Android).
Be careful because it is important to download the compatible version. In my case and for this guide, I have used the 32-bit version.
Select and click on the compatible version for your device. The download should start immediately.
Once the file downloaded, press Install
Now click Done to go back to the previous screen
Delete the installation package
Confirm the deletion
That’s it, you can now use Kodi on your Android TV device.
Upon this process, Kodi should appear in the app drawer of your device. Just go and open the app as you normally do.
