Google now allows you to Auto-delete your Google web and Location history. This makes it possible to delete it automatically every three months or every eighteen months.
This is a welcome addition to the options to completely turn this history on or off so that you can continue to enjoy recommendations and other personalized services while limiting the risks to your privacy. This tutorial allows you to simply enable automatic deletion.
Google keeps track of your activity on your devices at all times. This is especially true when you use Google Assistant on your smartphone and/or a Google Home speaker – you have two choices: either disable the history completely, and no longer enjoy personalized results, or turn the history on permanently and risk the data being played tricks on you one day, or being filtered out by bad people. However, Google has just announced the implementation of a kind of in-between: Auto-delete your Google web and Location history. This feature allows you to delete your history without any intervention on your part every three months or every eighteen months.
How to Auto-delete your Google web and Location history
Steps to perform the operation from your smartphone
For that:
- Click this link to go to My Activity Control on your PC, Chromebook, smartphone or tablet (regardless of device), or:
- Go to your smartphone’s Settings, then Google > Manage Google Account > Under Data and Personalizationsection, look for Web and Apps Activity
- In the Web and Application Activity section click on the Auto-delete button.
- Then choose an Auto-delete option 3 months or 18 months depending on the recurring duration at the end of which you want the deletion to take place.
Click Next to Validate
Note: the first time you validate the automatic deletion, all content older than 3 or 18 months (depending on the case) will be deleted.
