OnePlus adds a 40-inch Android TV to its growing list of affordable televisions

OnePlus’ Y series of affordable televisions has grown by one. The company today launched the OnePlus TV 40Y1 in India. The new TV joins the company’s existing 32-inch and 43-inch sets in the series.

Just like its siblings, the new OnePlus TV 40Y1 runs on the Android TV platform, with Android 9 under the hood. It isn’t the latest software as many larger Android TVs from other brands like Xiaomi have now jumped to Android 10. More premium television sets are also making the transition to Android 11. Still, you’ll get access to the Google Play Store on it, the ability to sideload apps, and built-in Chromecast capabilities, so you shouldn’t feel much difference in terms of functionality compared to newer versions of Android TV.

Meanwhile, the new OnePlus TV offers up the standard Android TV UI along with an option to use OnePlus’ OxygenPlay UI for personalized content recommendations.

You also get a Google Assistant button on the remote of the OnePlus 40Y1. This will enable you to use your voice for content search and controlling the TV.

OnePlus TV 40Y1 design and specs

The new 40-inch OnePlus TV features trim bezels and a Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) display with a 93% screen-to-body ratio. Like the existing Y series sets, the latest model also supports DCI-P3 93% color gamut for vibrancy and color accuracy.

20Wstereo speakers manage the sound on the TV with Dolby Atmos enhancement.

For connectivity, you get Bluetooth 5, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, two HDMI ports, two USB ports, an ethernet port, an antenna port, and an optical audio port.

As is the case with all OnePlus TVs, you can use the OnePlus Connect app to control the new OnePlus TV 40Y1. The app allows you to type in search queries using your phone, control the volume of your TV, switch apps, and more.

OnePlus TV 40Y1 price and availability

The OnePlus TV 40Y1 is priced at Rs 21,999 (~$301). It will soon be available on Flipkart.
